How does the SRC compare with closed vessel digestion using high throughput rotors?

With closed vessel digestion, the highest capacity rotors in theory can digest 40 samples simultaneously. In practice, however, this is restricted only to very easy to digest matrices, such as filter papers – or very small sample weights. If 40 soil samples were digested simultaneously, max. sample weight would be limited to around 100mg. Since high throughput rotors are limited to low pressure operation and use self-regulating vessels venting is a common occurrence. Which results in sample loss, potential loss of volatiles, incomplete digestions, poor reproducibility, and shortened lifetime of the microwave due to the constant exposure to corrosive fumes. With the SRC, however, there are no such limitations on sample type and even 0.75g - 1.5g of organic samples can be digested in each vial.
