Direct Mercury Analysis
Q: What are the principal advantages of Direct Mercury Analysis over Cold Vapor AA?
A: Direct Mercury Analysis (DMA) requires no sample preparation. On the other hand, it is well known that sample prep is a bottleneck in traditional sample analysis. By eliminating that bottleneck, DMA shortens total analysis time to only five minutes per sample.
In addition, Direct Mercury Analysis does not use expensive chemicals, nor does it generate any hazardous waste. There are substantial cost savings to be realized in the purchase and disposal of reagents. The total cost of analysis is only about $2.50 per sample—excluding, of course, the cost of the instrument.
Q: How do the results obtained with DMA compare to Cold Vapor AA?
A: Milestone's DMA-80 provides results that are very similar to those obtained by Cold Vapor AA. In addition, since no sample preparation is involved, sample handling is minimized, and so are the errors that can occur during that stage of the analytical process.
Q: How steep is the learning curve?
A: Minimal. The analytical process is automated; just place a solid or liquid sample in the sample boat, adjust your sample processing parameters, and press "Start." Five minutes later, results are displayed, and can easily be exported to third-party software such as a spreadsheet or database.
