An Integrated Approach

Milestone is the only company that offers the concept of total Integrated Microwave Extraction. The Ethos microwave labstation embodies this concept by allowing you to carry out:

Milestone's new WerTEX system is an integrated approach to solvent extraction, filtration, evaporation, and solvent recovery . . . all done within the Ethos labstation. This patented system allows total extraction procedures to be carried out without sample transfer.

WerTEX modules are available as WerTEX 6, for samples up to 5–10 g, or WerTEX 12, for samples up to 1–2 g.

Four Stages

Extraction
The sample is placed in our special glass insert with an integrated filter. This is then placed within the sample vessel and the solvent is added both inside and outside the glass insert. The sample extraction is then run.

Extraction

Filtration
After initial processing, the extraction vessels, which double as filtration devices, are placed within the FilTEX module for simultaneous vacuum filtration of each sample. The samples are vacuum filtered within a few minutes (5–6). The filtrate is collected in tared snap-on cap vials for analysis or further concentration.

Filtration

Evaporation
The EvapEX module is then added for rapid, controllable solvent evaporation under vacuum. The EvapEX evaporation system can be used to concentrate both microwave absorbing and non-absorbing solutions. Samples can be concentrated with vacuum only, or in combination with an inert gas. The vacuum air stream is microfiltered to avoid contamination of the filtrate. This system incorporates "green chemistry" by collecting the evaporated solvent for recycling. The samples are now ready for further treatment or analysis.

Evaporation

Solvent Recovery
The VAC-2000 Vacuum Solvent recovery Module consists of a high performance, chemically inert, double stage PTFE pump (20 mbar vacuum and 40/L min flow rate) plus two separate water-cooled glass condensers. Solvent vapors pass through each condenser (the first under vacuum conditions, the second pressurized) for recovery. Solvent recovery rates up to 98% can be achieved.
