Microwave sample preparation is the technology of choice for trace and ultra-trace metals analysis. High temperature, closed vessel, acid digestion prepares samples in less time than older methods (minutes rather than hours), uses less acid, and retains even volatile elements.
With the Ethos series of microwave digestion labstations, you can easily digest even the toughest organic or inorganic sample matrix, safely processing more samples in less time with superior results. Our unique design and specialized accessories give you a completely integrated system for a broad range of applications. When more power is required—whether working with difficult-to-digest, very large organic, or hazardous samples, or whether in need of faster throughput—consider Milestone's most powerful instrument: the UltraClave. This microwave autoclave is the only instrument of its kind. It combines microwave heating with high-pressure vessel technology, enabling researchers to conduct reactions at pressures and temperatures up to 200 bar (2,900 psig) and 280°C. |
"Milestone is the choice of microwave digestion system in ChevronTexaco. It handles petroleum and petrochemical samples easily and in a timely manner.
It has significantly improved our productivity and shortens the turn-around time from two weeks to just hours. Milestone microwave digestion has become a secret weapon to prepare all difficult samples such as used oil, grease, sludge, and oil deposits." David Hwang,

Advantages of Ethos series labstations
The Ethos is the only microwave oven built from the ground up for the rigors of lab use. It provides you with far greater "life expectancy" than other systems. [Click to read more about our safety features.]
The Ethos is a "multi-mode" microwave, which means that standing wave patterns are not allowed to form in the chamber. A unique design consisting of a "pre-mixing chamber" and rotating mode stirrer creates a homogeneous microwave field, with no hot or cold spots that can cause sample burning or incomplete digestions.
Milestone uses TFM vessel liners and covers in all digestion rotors. This is an established technology with the best mechanical and thermal stability in the industry. Resists contamination, melting, and deformation. [Click to read more about our digestion vessels.]
Superior Pressure VentingPatented "spring" technology for pressure relief vents-and-reseals, allowing you to complete digestion even after venting. There is no loss of volatile elements, which means no need to shut down the unit and prepare a new batch of samples. No single-use consumables result in a lower long-term operating cost. This is the safest pressure relief mechanism available, and allows you to reach the highest pressures of any vessel technology on the market.
Water-cooled rotor design allows for a much shorter cooling period after digestion, resulting in greater throughput capabilities (water cooling: 10 minutes / air cooling: 20–30 minutes).
Temperature probe is housed in a sturdy thermowell to prevent attack from acids; quick disconnect feature allows for immediate removal of rotor from oven for faster turnaround of next sample batch. [Click for details about temperature monitoring.]
Individually senses diffusion or leakage of acid vapors and modulates the power accordingly; plays the role of a pressure cap for every vessel. [Click for details on the unique QP Sensor.]
WindowsTM-based EasyWAVE or EasyCONTROL Software allows you simply to draw a temperature profile and the instrument will follow it (no power profile necessary). Allows you to change the program at any time, even while the program is running, giving the operator maximum flexibility. A method developed with a single vessel will also be suitable for multiple vessels. [Click for details on our process control software.]
