Integrated Vessels + Software + Temperature Feedback
Vessels
Milestone vent-and-reseal pressure relief technology is inherently safe, since only the excess pressure is released from the vessel and exhausted from the microwave cavity. This superior design keeps hot acid inside the vessel and eliminates the hazardous cleanup associated with burst or continuously venting vessels. Less stress to the oven and the vessels themselves means increased durability, longer lifetime and safe handling. Vessels are always uncapped in a sturdy work station, away from the operator and never in the operator's hands. This is especially important for organic samples, which will always release residual vapor pressure upon opening.
Temp Feedback and Software Control
Continuous temperature feedback is key to safely digesting samples without vigorous venting. The ATC-400 thermocouple and integrated software adjusts power output for controlled temperature ramping. If temperature and pressure begins to spike, the EasyWAVE or EasyCONTROL software automatically powers down to bring the reaction under control.
QP Sensor
For added safety, the QP sensor is an electrochemical device that detects minute amounts of acid that diffuse through vessels during a normal sample run. If pressure begins to build in any vessel, acid concentration rises and the patented QP sensor powers down the Ethos. In contrast to event sensors that can only let a user know that a vessel has vented, the QP sensor actually controls reactions and prevents vessels from venting.
Pressure-Responsive Door
A strong door is an important consideration when conducting acid digestions at high temperatures and pressures. For the Ethos EZ system, Milestone has engineered the safest microwave door based on a high-pressure autoclave design. The patented all-stainless-steel door is mounted on heavy-duty springs that allow the door to release pressure and reseal in the event of a substantial pressure buildup.
