PYRO Ashing Systems

Milestone offers two microwave ashing systems to meet the needs of your lab. The PYRO TC is a highly efficient alternative to conventional muffle furnaces. The PYRO dramatically reduces ashing times, from hours to minutes.

The PYRO SA is identical to the PYRO TC, with an additional module specially engineered for sulphate ashing procedures. It allows analysts to add H2SO4 to samples and place crucibles directly into the microwave muffle furnace without a preliminary charring step. Tedious handling/monitoring of samples, and operator exposures to acid fumes, are eliminated.

The PYRO systems' unique design eliminates equipment corrosion and acid fume pollution, greatly reducing analyst exposure to acid fumes. These labstations offer you the fastest, cleanest, most versatile way to ash a wide variety of samples.

Benefits

Reduced ashing times

The PYRO system reduces ashing times from hours to minutes. To see a table of results, illustrating this time reduction effect on a variety of samples, view our technical details page.

Reduced operating costs

The PYRO Ashing System has an extremely fast heating rate. A typical ashing temperature of 800 °C can be reached in 50 minutes from room temperature. This eliminates the necessity of running the system overnight, and avoids the lengthy heat up times associated with electrical resistance furnaces, dramatically lowering average power costs.

More comfortable working conditions

No Heat Added to the Lab
The special microwave-transparent ceramic muffle furnace is an outstanding insulator, minimizing heat loss and transfer to the surrounding area. The ambient temperature of a laboratory will be unaffected, even when the unit is running at its highest temperatures.

No Odors Added to the Lab
The combustion of samples containing organic matter often generates noxious odors. The built-in exhaust system of the PYRO removes fumes form the interior of the furnace and directs them through an exhaust hose to a fume hood or other outlet. Unpleasant odors from the ashing process are eliminated from the lab environment.

High sample throughput

The PYRO has the largest working cavity area in the industry. You can easily accommodate up to twelve standard 40 mm metal or ceramic crucibles at a time.

Simple and reproducible method development

The PYRO TC and SA labstations are run by an advanced Touch Screen controller with a large graphic interface. EasyCONTROL software offers you simple, user-friendly, intuitive operation. Sophisticated PID algorithms will follow your preset temperature curve and allows you to modify all parameters, even in the middle of a run. Save up to 200 different user defined programs. For a closer look at this process control software, view our technical details page.

Sulphate ashing without manual charring step

Milestone has engineered a unique microwave system for rapid sulphate ashing procedures. The PYRO SA Sulphate Ashing System enables analysts to ash H2SO4 to samples and then place crucibles directly into the microwave muffle step without a preliminary charring step. Tedious handling/monitoring of samples and operator exposure to acid fumes are eliminated. For more details, view our sulphate ashing page.

Faster, cleaner ashing of difficult samples

Our PYRO-Flow option allows you to process samples that generate a large amount of volatiles and soot—particularly valuable for the Petroleum and Plastics industries. A perforated quartz tube in the top of muffle is attached to a compressed air source and draws out the fumes, volatiles, and soot from the chamber.
