All parts of the PYRO system are constructed of solid stainless steel, unlike domestic microwave units with plastic doors that are both fragile and susceptible to thermal damage. The unit is specifically designed for laboratory use; it is not a modified kitchen-style microwave. An industrial-grade 1,200 W magnetron delivers 1,000 W of microwave power, microprocessor-controlled, in 10 W increments.
The door of the PYRO is made of stainless steel with a lining of ceramic fibers. In the event of a power failure, the door will not be damaged, even if the unit is operating at high temperatures. This is not the case with microwaves utilizing plastic components.
The unit also has an overtemperature sensor to protect it from overheating within the microwave cavity. Four microswitches will instantaneously cut off microwave emissions whenever the door is opened.
High throughputIndustry's largest heated platform: 165 x 225 mm (6.50 x 9 in.) can easily accommodate up to 12 crucibles with 40 mm (1.6 in.) diameter.
A special Al2O3 vacuum-formed, lightweight ceramic material allows extremely rapid ramping/heating cycles without any damage to the muffle. This ceramic material has excellent isolating properties, superior to conventional ceramics used in traditional resistance-heated ashing muffles.
A rotating stirrer on top of the microwave cavity optimizes microwave distribution in the cavity, and ensures temperature uniformity. At 900 °C, a ± 5 °C temperature uniformity across the muffle cavity is attained.
